The molecular mechanism of drug potency development is generalized using the confirmation change of protein and drug as an indicator that occurs upon their mutual actions. Further, a “drug delivery system utilizing the host defense system” is created.
This research proactively utilizes the phagocytic ability of macrophage and is useful for treating intractable diseases such as tuberculosis.
The Center for Drug Delivery Research of the multidiscipline laboratory of the Tokyo University of Science was established as the 8th department of the multidiscipline laboratory on April 1, 2003. This research center invited researchers and clinicians as guest researchers from universities, pharmaceutical companies, and medical organizations in addition to teachers of this university mainly consisting of teachers of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the Tokyo University of Science and started activities.
The issue of this project is “development of a new drug delivery system targeting the macrophage, particularly development of a drug product absorbed via the lung intended for treating the chronic intractable infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and for treating lung cancer, and development of a low-invasion breast cancer treating method allowing for treatment without surgery”.
Along with the organizational reform of the multidiscipline laboratory of the Tokyo University of Science in 2005, the multidiscipline laboratory was abolished. Instead, a new total research organization consisting of the research department and research center was established. In the past, the research center was a research organization belonging to the research department. In the total research organization, however, they co-exist.
The basic concept of research in this research center is “DDS learning from the system of the living body”. The DDS research based on this basic concept is extremely unique and the research is currently very smoothly in progress. For further evolution, your further support will be appreciated.
In 2015, “Division of Fusion of regenerative medicine with DDS” has been newly established in DDS center. In this division, targeting of medicine for effective biomedical engineering.
